Finally it was time for the race, and Rob Barff had a fantastic start. All the details are on pistonheads, but sure enough, the Speed 6 won! And the Speed 12 came in fourth. It had led for a while, and fought for 2nd and 3rd for quite some time. It was a great race. And from Eau Rouge, we were able to watch some really exciting moves. That's Pikey on the right, giving his Sony digital camera a rest for once!
For those of you who think Dave is a scumbag journo, check out the guy in the picture below!
That Cerbera just flew! And anyone could go and hang over the pit wall. I nearly had my hand taken off by the cars, trying to get this shot! The noise was deafening, and you could feel the wind just rip as the cars screamed by.
In fact, it looked faster than the speed 12 going up the hill. I couldn't believe it, it was so great it won! There were tears of joy on some team members' faces, and many other teams came up to congratulate the MV folks--clearly their dedication had impressed everyone. Both Martin and Rob had nasty blisters on their hands from holding on to the very hot gear lever because it had been popping out of 6th. And the quick driver changes were incredible--I had a really tough time even getting into the Speed 6 when they very kindly let me have a try (see pic on previous page).
Martin gets interviewed by someone named Amanda Stratton, apparently a well-known TV commentator...Christof is too hung-over to care!
